Conveyancers set legal IT pace
26 August 2004

A survey of 155 conveyancing solicitors has found that many are at the forefront of legal IT use and adapting to the latest technological advances, with 94% of practitioners having Internet access. Most respondents have a web site and many practitioners are well prepared for the e-conveyancing revolution - more than three-quarters used electronic forms and almost 60% have signed up to, or plann to introduce the National Land Information Service to their firms.

Voice recognition software has not caught on. Yet conveyancers "will be the first branch of the profession to implement true "electronic trading" and are becoming increasingly technology savvy - with digital signatures, mapping software and the use of document-storage sites and project rooms", according to Derek Southall, a partner in Wragge & Co.
