Executive Secretary to the Botswana Law Society, Patricia Makhoana, has asked for an urgent meeting between all commercial banks and the country's lawyers to discuss the thorny issue surrounding the allocation of conveyancing work by the banks to law firms of their choice despite some customers already having attorneys of their choice. Banks, in their own defence, say that they need to ensure that their interests are safeguarded, and that they cannot deal with all legal firms because that would amount to a legal risk for their customers. Therefore only the better placed firms were chosen.
