According to a survey conducted by Bailey Teswaine in England, lawyers now prefer using e-mail to using the telephone. But they prefer both these forms of communication to face-to-face meetings. The legal profession appears to have embraced e-mail far more readily than other professions.
Only 6% of lawyers prefer face-to-face meetings as their chosen method of communication as opposed to their counterparts in the public sector where the figure is 42%. This is presumably because of time pressures and the potential effects on billable hours. Other interesting findings of the extensive survey include that 43% of lawyers expect e-mail to be the dominant means of communication in five years' time and that as much as 25% of lawyers don't use online communication because of IT department monitoring.
